Our story is deeply intertwined with the healing powers of water that have been cherished for centuries. Our journey begins in the 15th century when a nun discovered a spring in the picturesque village of Serneus, emitting a distinctive and fragrant odor. Initially, she recognized the water's potential and began using it to treat animals, eventually extending its therapeutic benefits to humans. Little did she know that this humble spring would become the foundation of the Serneuser legacy.
During that time, the nunnery and the Padina Castle were under the ownership of the Padina Feudatorium. With the castle standing at the stream's foot, a hidden underground corridor connected it to the nunnery nestled in the valley. The sulphurous spring became an integral part of the Padina feudalism, carrying its unique qualities for generations.
However, in the years spanning 1820 to 1915, unfortunate debris destroyed the original bath. Determined to preserve the rich history and significance of the spring, the owner at the time, H. Stiefler, undertook the renovation and constructed a brand new building. This marked a pivotal moment in the rejuvenation of the healing waters of Bad Serneus.
In 1846, a Doctor recognized the immense potential of Bad Serneus and expanded the convalescent home, bringing in a wave of visitors. The bath became increasingly popular, attracting 400 to 500 guests seeking the therapeutic effects of the water. It was during this time that Doctor A.v. Planta published scientific data highlighting the medicinal benefits of the Serneus spring water, solidifying its reputation as a healing oasis.
The years between 1886 and 1898 saw the flourishing of the Klosters Resort, where the demand for the rejuvenating waters Serneuser continued to rise. To accommodate the growing influx of customers, a magnificent new hotel building was constructed, offering a sanctuary of relaxation and wellness.
